Little Victories

In a world of 7 billion people, it is easy to feel lost.
There are other people, that 7 billion something, that have lives as detailed as yours.
With that many faces, how would you expect your face with that stubbed nose and chubby cheeks be as memorable as a face of a nation's leader?
There will be times when you go on facebook or tumblr or simply when you are talking to a friend that you will find yourself comparing your life to theirs and find that maybe your life is not as interesting enough, is not as fulfilled or even not living your life as much as theirs.

When these happen and you are looking for solace, try to grasp this:
Not all victories are about saving the universe.

Rory Williams maybe a fictional character in a fictional universe talking to a fictional hero but his words still ring true.

When you feel proud of yourself for getting out of bed this morning,
When you feel proud for not eating that 4th slice of cake,
When you feel proud for not crying after a movie,
When you feel awesome after finishing 2nd in a race although you were not feeling well,
When your friend just told you how much you mean to them,
When your souffles come out perfect,
When you wake up 10 minutes before the alarm,
When you dashed halfway through and still make it to the office without getting late,
When your daughter calls you Mum or Dad,
When you hear your mother telling how proud she is of you for graduating to her friends,
When you finished BBC Sherlock in a day.

Little victories are so underrated and I think it is time to bring this back.
Be proud and stand tall for anything possible,
Indulge in those little victories and smile more!

Some things on being twenty

Turning twenty is weird
Because it isnt anything like your 18th birthday
You are not really celebrating anything other than your birthday
You are not legal (yet in the States)
You are over the legal age (in the UK)
Nothing really special
It is just that now
You have to start writing in that age column with the number two.

Turning twenty is weird
Because you cant really look for an adult in the room
For you are one
You dont need anymore supervision (somewhat)
Clearly responsible for your own fate
And somewhat responsible for the general wellbeing of your surroundings
What a big fucking responsibility.

Turning twenty is weird.
Because your friends start to dwindle
You used to get invited to parties every weekend
Now you prefer to sleep on Friday night
There is so many people yet there is so little time
And you began to prioritise
You began to realise who is actually important
Who matters
And the word "Friend" just got a whole lot deeper.

Turning twenty is weird.
Because everyone is busy with their significant others'
And you are here in your room
Reblogging pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch and James McAvoy
Getting too emotionally invested in The Last of Us
Still not over the Kingdom Hearts' feels
Busy helping NPCs in the Elder Scrolls
Baking failed choux creme
Reading one shot shoujo and cry because you wont get anywhere near that story
You tell yourself that it is fine
That you are alone for now
Smile when your friends set you up
Act like you are all independent and okay
Whereas you really just want someone to approach you and say ,
"I want to get to know you better."

Turning twenty is weird
Because everyone expects you to get your shit together
And you dont even know you have shits to get together in the first place
Start filing taxes
When you cant even finish a damn questionnaire about the restaurant's service
Living on your own for the 4th consecutive year
When your friends still have packed lunched from their mothers
Freaking out about what you are going to do in 10 years time
When you havent even studied for tomorrow's Anthro Theory class
Slowly realising that actually
the adults around do not have a clue either
They are just better at hiding things.

Turning twenty is weird
Because it will only happen once
Just like any other birthdays
But it will be okay
We will take it one step at time
Adulthood has come ages ago
It is just more binding on paper now.
